Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)

The media wing of the military of Pakistan Armed Forces a front line wall against the 5th generation warfare which is responsible for broadcasting and coordinating military news and information with country civilians and civic society is called Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The main purpose of ISPR is to strengthen the relations of the public with civic society via media. The directorate of ISPR serves as a voice of Pakistan’s military by its director-general who is the official spokesperson of armed forces. Besides this, ISPR give funds, productions and assists with the military dramas and war films. It is an active department of the armed forces of Pakistan which uses English as well as the Urdu language to communicate with people.

 The ISPR directorate was established in the Pakistani army in 1949 and Colonel Shahbaz Khan became its first director-general. The relation which ISPR generates with the public is a unified one and it combines the army, air force, navy, and marines together. It manages the affairs between armed forces and civilian officers. It also joins the Joint Staff Headquarters (JS HQ) for gathering national support for the armed forces at the public level.

ISPR has worked a lot to run a campaign on the war of terror and economic terrorism. By impressing with such efforts for the first time in the history of Pakistan military a three-star general led the ISPR named Lt-General Asim Saleem Bajwa who was succeeded by Major General Asif Ghafoor. Major Saleem had taken the official account of ISPR on twitter with him when his tenure was completed. So it was Major General Asif Ghafoor who started from zero to promote this account. ISPR is the strongest front line of 5th Generation Warfare against Pakistan.

Major General Asif Ghafoor Ex-DG

Major General Asif Ghafoor was a previous Director-General of Inter-Service Public Relations who was a spokesperson of Pakistan Armed Forces. He had served this nation from December 2016 to January 2020. Before him, Lt-General Saleem Bajwa was fulfilling these responsibilities. Now Major Asif is performing his duty and serving the PAK army at 40th Infantry Division in Okara as GOC since February 2020. Major is succeeded by General Babar Iftikhar.

Political Personalities

When Major General Asif Ghafoor was Directorate of ISPR during the government of

Pakistan Muslim League (N) when Nawaz Sharif was Prime Minister and Mamnoon Hussain was President of Pakistan.

He was also the spokesperson of ISPR during the government of Imran Khan till January 2020.

Education of Major

Major Asif has done his graduation from Command and Staff College Quetta. He was also one of the bright students of Command & Staff College Bandung (Indonesia). He has done his master’s from National Defence University Islamabad in Strategic Studies.

Military Life of Major

Major has served various infantries including;

  • Brigade Major Infantry Brigade
  • Assistant Military Secretary MS Branch
  • GSO-I Military Operation Directorate
  • Station at GHQ
  • Director of Military Operations in Military Operations Directorate GHQ

He has performed various staff, instructional and commands assignments as well. He also has commanded the Operation Al-Mizan, Artillery Brigade on LOC (Line of Control). He has also paid his utmost efforts in Swat and Malakand division.

Awards

Major was awarded COAS Commendation Card for operation in Bajaur in 2008. He has also received Hilal-i-Imtiaz in the military.

Civilians Opinions about Major

The people who are against the army have reported very wrong comments about Major General Asif Ghafoor on Twitter. It was thought that he has been replaced or deported from the rank of DG-ISPR. But there is room for correction of such people who backbite the Pak-Army. The rank of DG-ISPR is tenured for 5years. And Major General Asif has completed his tenure period and now he is working and promoted as a General of Commanding at Okara infantry. He will be retired from the army on the 28th of June 2023. Now he is working as a grade 21 officer and serving the PAK army.

Major Contribution of Major Asif

ISPR is a front line of 5th Generation Warfare against Pakistan and One of the major contributions of Major Asif was the press conferences in February 2019 when the whole nation was afraid of the war between India and Pakistan. It was then Major Asif who gave all the updates about war and the conditions. He also narrated how the Indian pilot was treated and sent to India. Upon the completion of his tenure, he handed over the twitter account of ISPR to major General Babar Iftikhar on Feb 1st, 2020. We hope that Major General Asif Ghafoor will be promoted to Lt-General.

In 2020 PAK army has received 987 applications for the up-gradation of brigadiers to generals. Out of which only 7 people are upgraded which is a very difficult task for PAK army officers. And out of these applications, one of the Brigadiers has been appointed as a Major General who is currently serving the department of ISPR and his name is Major General Babar Iftikhar. He has been from Multan Infantry.

Major General Babar Iftikhar

He is a two-star Pakistani General of Pakistan Military who is serving as a current spokesperson of ISPR. He is the 21st Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations. He has joined his office from 1st February 2020. He got commission in March 1990 in 6 Lancers.

Education

Major is a graduate from Command & Staff College of Quetta. He has also done some part of his education from Royal Command & Staff College Jordan. He has done his master’s from National Defense University Islamabad.

Military Experience

Major has carried with him a rich command, staff and instructional experience. He was a Brigade Major in Armored Brigade. He has also served as Brigadier Staff in an Infantry Division in North Waziristan (OAM). He has also done his duties as Chief of Staff Headquarters. The infantries which he has commanded include;

He has also served as a faculty in PMA (Pakistan Military Academy) as well as the National University of Defense Islamabad.

Retirement of General

General Babar will retire from PAK Army on the 28th of June 2025.
