Security forces foiled a terrorist attack in Dera Ismail Khan on Monday 9 March, in which an officer of the Pakistan Army was killed. The martyr, identified as Colonel Mujib Ur Rehman, was a resident of Bunji in the Astore district of Gilgit-Baltistan. The ISPR told the media that the widow, three sons, and a daughter have since left.

According to the army media wing, the operation was conducted against the terrorists who were hiding near the Tank area of Dera Ismail Khan. The ISPR added that the operation was carried out on certified intelligence reports. The terrorists opened fire as the armed forces entered and surrounded the area. Two terrorists were killed during the operation. Colonel Mujib Ur Rehman accepted the martyrdom in exchange for the shooting.” He also added, “During the sanitization operation, the terrorists’ hideouts recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition.”

Tribute to the great martyred

The Prime Minister paid tribute to Colonel Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, who offered his life for the motherland and said that the whole nation was aware of the sacrifices of the security forces.

Prime Minister Imran prayed for the spirit of late and said that Pakistan was witnessing peace due to the efforts of security forces.

Intelligence officials said the dead terrorists belonged to the Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan. The group has had a strong presence in the region until recent years when the army killed or arrested most of its members in connection with the operation. The tank is a strategic area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bordering Afghanistan, where dozens of terrorist attacks have been witnessed in recent years, most claimed by the Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan.

President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan have praised the security forces for the successful operation in the Tank area in which two terrorists were killed.

Both the Prime Minister and the President paid tribute to the martyr colonel, saying that he sacrificed his life during the operation to thwart the malicious design of the terrorists. He said that the entire nation recognizes the sacrifices of the PAK army and security agencies. The Prime Minister said that because of their sacrifices, terrorism has been eliminated and peace has been restored.

In a statement issued from the President House, the President said that the nation is united and determined to fight this curse of terrorism.

They also prayed for the peace of departed soul and firmness to the family of that brave men.

Special Assistant Prime Minister’s  Information and Broadcast Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that conducting operations for terrorism in DI Khan demonstrates the professional potential of Pakistan’s brave armed forces.

In a tweet, she paid tribute to the martyr Colonel Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, “who sacrificed himself for his country.”

Former President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto also expressed deep grief over the death of Colonel Mujibur Rahman. He said that the martyred officer has sacrificed his life for his country by fighting terrorists and the whole nation is proud of sons like him. He condoled with the martyr’s relatives and prayed for courage and patience to bear this loss.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that brave and fearless soldiers like Colonel Mujibur Rahman Shaheed are proud of the nation.

According to details, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi praised the role of the Pakistan Army in combating terrorist ambitions in Dera Ismail Khan.

He added that linking the intentions of terrorists to Dera Ismail Khan is a testimony to the bravery and professionalism of our brave and courageous armed forces.
