Pakistan Super League (PSL)

The PSL 2020 which is also known as PSL 5, sponsored by Habib Bank Limited of Pakistan. It will be called the 5th season of the Pakistan Super League. PSL is a T20 (twenty-twenty) league of cricket which was established in 2015 by the Pakistan Cricket Board. For the first time in all seasons, this 2020 PSL will be entirely held in Pakistan otherwise the last four seasons were held in Dubai except for some matches. This league of 2020 will be scheduled between the 20th of February and 22nd March.

Back scene 

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan has announced in February 2020 that the fifth league of PSL will be held in Pakistan. The chairperson of the Board of Cricket of Pakistan named Ehsan Mani has also expressed his views that it will be very beneficial for the tournament to be held in Pakistan. So, the announcement fixtures of PSL confirm that it will be held in our own country rather than in Dubai.

Teams of PSL

The draft of Players took place on the 6th of December 2019 with its first round in which it was decided that the six players from each team will be retained as from the previous lists. So, on 1st December the list of six players from each team was displayed so a total of 45 players was announced from previous seasons.

Place of Tournament

It was decided the tournament will be held on following venues in Pakistan;

• Lahore
• Karachi
• Rawalpindi
• Multan

The opening ceremony will be held in Karachi whereas finals are scheduled to be held in Lahore.

Squad of PSL 

The squad of PSL consists of;

• Lahore Qalanders
• Peshawar Zalimi
• Multan Sultan
• Islamabad United
• Karachi Kings
• Quetta Gladiators

Multan Sultan

The franchise of cricket team T20 developed in 2017. With a capacity of 35000 people, its home ground is present in Multan Cricket Stadium. The current captain of the team is Shan Masood. In 2017 the team was brought up by Schon Properties but unfortunately, they were unable to pay their annual fee which was US$ 5.2 million and hence their contract has expired. In December 2018 Ali Khan Tareen and Taimoor Malik of Multan Consortium were able to own the rights of the team, but they did not change its name. In the inaugural season, Shoaib Malik was the captain of the team along with Tom Moody and Wasim Akram were its head coach and directors respectively. In 2019, Johan Botha was the assistant coach of the team. In the following year of 2020, the head coach of the team is Andy Flower. Shoaib Malik and Junaid Khan are the run-scorer and wicket-taker respectively.

Lahore Qalandars

LQ or Lahore Qalandars is a cricket team of PSL whose home ground is Gaddafi Stadium. It is representing the city of Lahore where people with full of life live. This team is owned by Qatar Lubricants Company Limited (QALCO). Sohail Akhtar is the captain of the team and Aaqib Javed is coaching it. Fawad Rana is the owner of LQ. The team has faced loss at the last spot of the points in each of the four seasons. The brand ambassador of this team is Shaheen Shah Afridi. Fakhar Zaman is the leading run-scorer and Yasir Shah is a wicket-taker of the team.

Peshawar Zalmi

A Pakistani franchise of cricket is owned by Javed Afridi who is a famous businessman. It was established in 2015 at the inaugural of PSL by PCB. The captain of Peshawar Zalmi in this tournament is Darren Sammy whereas the head coach is Mohammad Akram. Hashim Amla. Kamran Akmal is the run-scorer for the side while Wahab Riaz is the leading wicket-taker of the team.

Karachi Kings 

The most enthusiastic team of Pakistan Super League is Karachi Kings with National Stadium as its home ground which was established in 2015 at the time when PCB decided to arrange PSL. Currently, Imad Wasim is fulfilling the responsibilities of captain while the coaching is done by Dean Jones under the president ship of Wasim Akram. Babar Azam is the run-scorer with Mohammad Amir who is leading as a wicket-taker.

Islamabad United

IU team is the team that is owned by Leonine Global Investments by Amna Naqvi and Ali Naqvi. This is the team whose home ground is Rawalpindi Stadium and which won the first PSL by defeating the Quetta Gladiators in the final. In the third season, IU again won the title by defeating Peshawar Zalmi. Currently, Misbah-ul-Haq is the head coach but in the past 4 seasons, Dean Jones has coached the team. The youngest captain of PSL is Shadab Khan. The leading run-scorer of the team is Luke Ronchi while Muhammad Sami is the leading wicket-taker.

Quetta Gladiators

The professional franchise of cricket which are the current champions of PSL. This team was established in 2015 in Quetta with its home ground as Bugti Stadium. The team is captained by Sarfraz Ahmed and coached by the famous wicket-keeper of Pakistan National Team Moin Khan. The assistant coach is Abdul Razzaq. Run-scorer is Shane Watson and Muhammad Nawaz is the leading wicket-taker.

Format of League

All the teams will play 10 matches and will get 2 points on every win, none for loss and 1 for no result.

Effect of PSL on Pakistani Economy

The weak and fragile economy of Pakistan can be boosted by producing money and fetching the tourism of sports in Pakistan. This is an opinion given by the economists of Pakistan. According to statistics, a billion are circulated during such tournaments and hence the government can earn millions by arranging such enthusiastic sports galas. Bringing thousands of cricket lovers and foreign players will help in earning profit for businesses such as hotels, restaurants, airlines, advertisements, etc. In such conditions, the local industry of a country will ultimately boost up like the cottage industry of Pakistan. Pakistani food is famous all over the world so it will boost the food industry by attracting tourists and fans. Similarly, tourists also like to get Pakistani handicrafts including shirts, caps and other products and it will help the poor to earn the money by selling their goods. Tickets of the tournament also increase the income of the government by selling them into millions.

The PCB and the PSL itself are making money via the auction of broadcasting rights, title sponsorship, and corporate sponsorship, ticket sales, auction of franchise rights and official umpire sponsorship.
